Without providing the required information, the remittance may be delayed, rejected or charged additional fee. The additional fee may be deducted from the remittance proceeds or claimed against the remitter; the Bank accepts no responsibility for any loss or damage suffered by any person arising out of such delay, rejection and/or return.

CNY This service is available to Hong Kong residents only, and the beneficiary account must be a personal RMB savings account under the same name. Please ascertain that the beneficiary account is eligible for receipt of cross border Renminbi funds. Please read the section of Renminbi Remittance for further details.
2 United Kingdom GBP Please provide the SORT CODE of the beneficiary bank.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Can I settle my foreign currency remittance by funds held in a HKD account or MTC account?
    • Yes. You can settle the foreign currency remittance amount by HKD or MTC account. The corresponding foreign currency amount will be converted at our spot rate at the time of transaction.
  2. Can I set up a remittance application in advance?
    • Yes. You may select a day within the next 45 days to be the "Effective Date – The application will be sent on". The application will be processed on that "Effective Date", by applying our spot rate at the time of transaction, if exchange is necessary.
    • You may also select "the application is sent now", and the application will be processed immediately.
    • Further, you may also select "Standing Instruction" in the field of "Remittance Arrangement". Your transactions will be executed according to the schedule and frequency you defined.
  3. Is there any limit of outward remittance? How do I check and adjust the limit?
    • Yes. Please click here for the details of Third Party Account fund transfer limit.
  4. Can I fill in the remittance application in Chinese?
    • Yes. Please note that Traditional or Simplified Chinese (UTF-8) is acceptable only on the fields of "Beneficiary Bank", "Beneficiary" and "Message to Beneficiary" when the remittance is sent to the mainland, Hong Kong or Macau. For remittance to the Mainland of China, if the beneficiary account was opened in a Chinese name, please provide the Name of Beneficiary in Chinese. If in doubt, please clarify with the Beneficiary. Unless it is deemed necessary, please complete the application of Remittance in English.
  5. Why was an error message "Contains invalid character" displayed?
    • Such error message is displayed when incompatible character(s) is/are entered.
    • "/", ":" or "-" is not acceptable in the first character of "Name", "Address" and/or "Message to Beneficiary".
    • Consecutive spaces are entered in these text fields.
    • Acceptable characters include numbers (e.g. 1,2,3), English characters(e.g. A, a, B, b, C, c) and the following symbols:  / - ? : ( ) . , ' +
  6. Can I settle my remittance by a credit card account?
    • Yes. HKD BOC Credit Card will be accepted for payment of remittance. Commercial Card, Purchasing Card, Private Label Card, Intown Card, USD Card, Prepaid Card, Express Cash Card as well as Credit Card and Prepaid Card issued in Macau are not accepted.
    • The related charges (if applicable) and credit card Administration Fee will be charged to the same credit card account.
  7. What are the conditions for applying “Salary Remit”?
    • Your nationality is China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents) and using the Bank's payroll services.

Charges

  1. Charges will be assessed based on the chargeable items and current rates on the basis of the effective service charges at the time of the transaction.

    • Apart from handling commission, the Bank may collect from chargeable items (including but not limited to below listed items) according to the transaction requirement.
  2. Commission in Lieu of Exchange
    • Applicable to remittance of HK$ outside Hong Kong, except the mainland and Macau region.
    • Commission in Lieu of Exchange is not inclusive of Handling Commission.
  3. Cable Charges
    • If more than one SWIFT/electronic message is required, Extra Cable Charge is applicable.
  4. Correspondent Bank Charges
    • "Correspondent Bank Charges" means collectively the charges imposed by the related correspondent banks, intermediary banks, clearing institutions &/or beneficiary bank in processing the remittance, plus our extra handling charges .
    • You can select whether Correspondent Bank Charges are to be borne by the Beneficiary or the Remitter.
    • If the "Beneficiary" is selected to bear them, Correspondent Bank Charges will usually be deducted from the remittance amount.
    • If the "Remitter" is selected to bear them, Correspondent Bank Charges will be collected from your designated account. If Correspondent Bank Charges are requested to be borne by remitter, the Bank is entitled to collect the charges in advance. The collected amount is not refundable. But, if the actual claims exceeded the collected amount, the Bank is entitled to collect the shortfall. Please also note that this charge option requires more work and the related banks/institutions generally collect higher amount than if they are otherwise borne by beneficiary.
  5. Remittance by credit card administration fee (Only applicable to Payment of Remittance Service by BOC credit card)

Renminbi Remittance

  1. The amount of Renminbi remittance will be deducted from your Renminbi Savings Account or Multi-Currency Account in CNY.
  2. The Clearing Institution will determine whether a Renminbi remittance can be completed.
  3. For Remminbi remittance to the mainland, you can provide beneficiary bank's CNAPS No. Please select CHINA in the 'Country/Region', and input the 12-digit CNAPS No. in the 'CNAPS No.' or select the beneficiary bank from the pull down list.
  4. Remittance to Beneficiary Account in the Mainland of China:
      4.1 Hong Kong Resident(Include Hong Kong Permanent and Non Hong Kong Permanent Residents)
    • The applicant and the beneficiary must be the same Hong Kong Identity Card holder and has maintained a Renminbi Savings Account with a bank in the Mainland.
    • The names of beneficiary name and the remitter must be the same and provided in the same language.
    • If the "Effective Date" of the remittance is a holiday/non business day in the the Mainland of China, the instruction will be rejected.
    • The daily limit of Renminbi Outward Remittance is CNY80,000.
    • The Remittance may be rejected if it does not meet the relevant rules and requirements of the Mainland of China.
      4.2 Non Hong Kong Permanent Residents
    • If the customer(s) is using the payroll services of the Bank, he/she can choose the "Remittance Purpose" as "Salary Remit", the amount of remittance cannot exceed the earned salary in Hong Kong received through BOCHK payroll service minus the amounts remitted by "Salary Remit". He/She can apply for "Salary Remit" once per month.
      4.3 Non-Hong Kong Resident
    • Application from non-HK resident will not be accepted.
  5. Remittance to Beneficiary Account overseas:
    • Remittance to other countries/regions is generally allowed. But, if no settlement arrangement is established with the beneficiary bank, the transaction may be rejected and the remitter will be responsible for the costs and expenses incurred by the Bank. To avoid reject, please check with the Bank that settlement arrangement is available with the beneficiary bank before submission of application.

  1. Payment Purpose must be provided on your remittance.
  2. Please select the suitable category for your transaction by the pull down menu of Purpose purposes. If there is no suitable category, please select "Others" then fill in supplement information on the space provided.
  3. For remittance to those countries/regions requiring declaration of payment purpose, please input the payment purpose in the field of "Message to Beneficiary". If the field "Message to Beneficiary" is left blank, we may place your input of the "Payment Purpose" on the field of "Message to Beneficiary" which will be sent to the destination countries/regions.

Standing Instruction

  1. "One Off" remittance arrangement means your instruction will be executed once only. "Standing Instruction" means your instruction transaction will be executed according to your pre-defined schedule and frequency.


  2. Frequency and Commencement Date
    Frequency Commencement Date (within the next 45 days)
    Daily Commencement date cannot be set on Saturday, Sunday or Public Holidays.
    Weekly
    Bi-weekly
    Commencement date cannot be set on Saturday or Sunday. If the commencement date is on Wednesday, the standing instruction will be executed on every Wednesday.
    Monthly
    Quarterly
    Half-yearly
    Yearly
    Commencement date can be set on any specific date or end of the month (the last business day of every month).
    Note: If the specified date does not exist in a particular month, the instruction will be executed on the next business day.

  3. Expiry Date
    Termination Option Arrangement
    By expiry date The standing instructions will be terminated after the expiry date. (Instructions to be executed on the expiry date is still valid.)
    By number of successful remittance Standing Instructions will be terminated after a number of successful transactions. The maximum value is 999 times (exclude unsuccessful instructions).
    Until further update Standing Instructions will continue to be valid until further amendment via Internet Banking.

  4. Arrangement during Holiday, Typhoon or Black Rainstorm Warning Signal
    Instruction Execution Day Arrangement
    Saturday, Sunday or Public Holiday Instructions will be postponed to the next business day except standing instructions to be executed daily.
    Typhoon signal No.8 or above / black rainstorm warning signal is hoisted for the whole day Instructions will be postponed to the next business day.
    Typhoon signal No.8 or above / black rainstorm warning signal is hoisted for half day Instructions will be executed at about 2:00 p.m. on that day.
    Note: Postponed instructions due to holiday, typhoon or black rainstorm warning signal will be executed in the manner as set out in the table above, even if the "Instruction Expiry Date" has been passed.

  5. Remarks
    • Instructions given before 0:00 midnight (Monday to Sunday) will be effective on the next business day.
    • Update and cancellation of instructions will be effective immediately after your instructions have been accepted except those that have already been executed.
    • Preset or standing instructions will be executed at about 9:00 a.m. on instruction execution day.
    • If an instruction cannot be executed for six consecutive times due to account status, insufficient funds or other reasons, this instruction will be cancelled automatically.
    • If there are multiple instructions to be executed on the same day, postponed instructions will be executed first, followed by standing instructions and then scheduled instructions. If there are multiple instructions of the same kind, they will be executed according to the set up sequence.
    • If you cancel Internet Banking Service, all standing instructions will be cancelled. If you suspend Internet Banking Service, standing instructions will still be valid and executed according to the preset schedule.
    • You can set up to a maximum of 20 standing instructions.
