Please follow the steps below to fill in the Questionnaire on Investment Preference:
  1. Step 1: Important Note to Customer(s) and Disclaimer
    • Please read the Important Note to Customer(s) and Disclaimer carefully. Please confirm that you agree with the content before starting to fill in the questionnaire.
  2. Step 2: The Questionnaire on Investment Preference
    • The questionnaire comprises of two parts: Part I "Personal Particulars" and Part II "Risk Profile Assessment".
    • Please answer each question before submitting the questionnaire.
  3. Step 3: Questionnaire Assessment Result
    • We will assess which investment risk profile you fall into based on the answers you have provided and show the characteristics of your investment risk profile.
    • If you believe that your have a more prudent investment risk profile than our questionnaire assessment result, you could self-declare a more prudent investment risk profile among the options provided by us which is more appropriate to your situation.
  4. Step 4: The Final Questionnaire Assessment Result
    • We will adopt the more conservative of the questionnaire assessment result and the self-declared investment risk profile, as your final investment risk profile. The result will be stored in our record.
    • You may save or print the Questionnaire Assessment Result for your own record.

Validity of Questionnaire on Investment Preference

  1. The assessment result is valid for one year and will expire starting from one year later. Example:
    If the questionnaire is filled in on Oct 15, 2008, the assessment result is valid from Oct 15, 2008 to Oct 14, 2009, and will expire from Oct 15, 2009 onwards.
  2. Starting from 60 days before the Expiry Date, an alert message will appear on investment transaction pages to remind you to fill in the questionnaire again.
  3. Starting from the Expiry Date, an alert message will appear on investment transaction pages to remind you that your assessment result has expired. You have to fill in the questionnaire again before you could conduct the investment transactions.

Investment Risk Profile

Investment Risk Profile Description
Conservative You are a conservative investor whose primary aim is to preserve capital. You are risk adverse on investment.
Moderately Conservative You are a moderately conservative investor whose primary aim is to look for a return slightly above deposit rate.
In general, you prefer to take low-to-medium investment risk and accept modest fluctuation of capital values with the possibility of facing occasional high short-term loss.
Moderate You are a moderate investor who wants to achieve a return higher than inflation rate and a moderate growth of capital.
In general, you prefer to take medium investment risk and accept moderate fluctuation of capital values with the possibility of facing occasional high short-term loss.
Moderately Aggressive You are a moderately aggressive investor. You aim to earn returns substantially higher than inflation to pursue high capital appreciation.
You can accept a level of fluctuation of capital values to the extent of your capital falling noticeably below your original investment.
Aggressive You are an aggressive investor who is eager to earn the highest potential returns. Minimizing risks is not your primary concern.
You can accept leveraged investment and bear corresponding risk of capital loss in exchange for high return potential.
Description and explanation of customer investment risk profile
  • The questionnaire on investment preference is derived from the information you provide to the Bank and are built upon the assumptions that an appropriate risk level will depend on your investment objective, investment horizon, liquidity needs, investment knowledge and experience, attitude towards risk and return expectation. The investment risk profile is divided into 1 to 5 levels where the investment products involving higher risk are only suitable for those customers with higher levels. The questionnaire design and scoring methods are based on the findings from empirical research. Your answers have material impact on the indicative result of this questionnaire. You must provide information that is valid, true, complete, accurate and updated where your failure in doing so would affect the accuracy and reliability of our suitability assessment.

Product Risk Rating

Product Risk Rating Description
Low Investment products of this risk level are suitable for those investors who are risk-averse and look for capital protection.
Low to Medium Investment products of this risk level are suitable for those investors who can accept low-to-medium investment risks in exchange for a return slightly above deposit rate.
Medium Investment products of this risk level are suitable for investors who attempt to attain a return higher than inflation rate and a moderate capital growth, and are willing to bear medium investment risks.
Medium to High Investment products of this risk level are suitable for those investors who seek for high capital gain and are willing to bear medium-to-high investment risks.
High Investment products of this risk level are suitable for investors who are eager to maximize the attainable return, irrespective of the risk involved.
Description and explanation of investment product risk rating
  • The Bank classifies investment products into 5 levels (1 = Low Risk, 2 = Low to Medium Risk, 3 = Medium Risk, 4 = Medium to High Risk, 5 = High Risk) based on the Bank’s internal assessment, thereby assisting customers to understand and assess each product’s appropriateness in relation to their own risk appetite. The internal assessment of various factors to calculate the risk of maximum loss, includes but not limited to, the asset class that the product belongs to, currency risk, price risk, credit risk, complexity risk and liquidity risk etc., and is for reference only. The product risk rating will be assessed quarterly, but the Bank may revise the risk rating assigned to a product in case of event triggering without any prior notice.
