What does "domestic helper" mean in this insurance plan? Can I apply for this insurance plan if I recruit a local domestic helper?
In this insurance plan, "domestic helper" refers to the person who is recruited from places outside Hong Kong and has entered into a full-time work under a written contract of domestic services. The Filipino and Indonesian maids are two examples of domestic helper. In other words, a domestic helper recruited locally is not applicable.
Does the insurance plan cover all overseas domestic helpers?
No, the insurance plan does not apply to domestic helpers from China; Macau, China; Taiwan, China; Afghanistan; Albania; Cambodia; Cuba; Laos; Korea (Democratic People's Republic of) and Vietnam.
What types of plans are available there for me to choose from?
Two insurance plans, namely one-year and two-year plans, are offered to meet the needs of customers. Those choosing the two-year plan can enjoy special discount on insurance premium.
Should the insurance period correspond to the employment period?
Not necessarily, but the domestic helper must be engaged by the proposer during the period the policy takes effect.
How about the age limit for the insured domestic helper?
The insured domestic helper must be between the age of 18 to 60.
How can I claim the benefit of outpatient medical treatment?
In this case, you are required to submit the original medical report and receipt to Bank of China Group Insurance Co Ltd within 30 days of the treatment. Please be reminded that the patient's name and diagnosis must be clearly indicated on the relevant report/receipt. To facilitate the process, the insurance policy number should be written on the back of those required documents.
Will compensation be made if my domestic helper suffers from an injury when he or she is on leave in Hong Kong?
Yes. In addition to clinical expenses, your domestic helper will be protected against personal accident compensation of up to a maximum of HK$100,000 in case of death or permanent disability within 12 months after the injury.
If I employ a new domestic helper to replace an original one, do I need to apply for a new insurance plan?
No. But you have to notify Bank of China Group Insurance Co Ltd in writing and provide it with the particulars of your new domestic helper, like the name, date of birth, passport/identity card number and nationality. However, the effective date to provide coverage for the new domestic helper should not be earlier than the notice date.
Can I cancel the insurance policy if the employment is terminated?
Yes. Please bring along the original policy and visit any one of our branches for cancellation arrangement. Bank of China Group Insurance Co Ltd shall retain the customary short period rate for the time the policy has been in force and refund the balance of the premium.
